Brief Profile Expand

DHL Express provides customers with courier, express and parcel services (CEP) in three product lines, differentiated between national and cross-border deliveries.  DHL operate a network for intercontinental transport and cross-border transport within continents, via road, rail and air, providing both standard products and tailored solutions to customers in over 220 countries and territories.  The network covers over 4,000 offices and more than 120,000 destinations worldwide.

DHL Express is the result of the consolidation of the former DHL Worldwide Express business and the Deutsche Post Euro Express parcels business and offers; worldwide express delivery of documents and parcels, time-certain delivery, a range of e-commerce tools, an express logistics network and a Strategic Parts Centre, as well as technology for the electronic tracking of shipments.

DHL Express is a global leader of the international air express industry, accounting for a claimed market share in excess of 37%.  The Express business is organised on geographical regions, with Europe representing the bulk of the revenues and a major contributor to profitability.  DHL have a dominant position in Europe and the Pacific Rim.

By the end of 2008 in the USA DHL and UPS had agreed to develop a contract whereby UPS would provide air uplift for DHL Express US domestic and international shipments within North America. In addition, DHL would redesign its ground linehaul network. As at February 2009 the restructuring of the DHL U.S. Express business was well on track with all domestic offerings having already ceased by the end of January 2009.

However by April 2009 talks between DHL and UPS over using UPS aircraft for DHL's US express business had been terminated. Although neither company had released formal statements, briefings to the press by DHL stated that the two companies were "unable to reach a conclusive agreement that was acceptable to both parties."

Revenue in the Express Division was €10,312 in 2009.
