Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority

Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority manage, though a board of governors, the world's busiest cargo airport: Memphis International Airport.  They also own and operate two small reliever airports close to Memphis: General DeWitt Spain Airport and Charles W. Baker Airport.

Established in 1929, Memphis International Airport has been a major commercial airfreight facility since 1973 when FedEx Express (FedEx) built a sorting facility and an administration building on the airfield. FedEx's package-sorting complex, now known as the World Hub, handles over 1.5m packages each day. 

United Parcel Service also has a significant presence at the airport, operating its third largest US sorting facility out of the airport. To further expand its cargo handling capacity the authority are building a new cargo terminal, "Cargo Central."

Memphis also boasts considerable passenger capacity.  Northwest Airlines uses Memphis as its third largest hub.  The Tennessee Air National Guard, TnANG, are also based at the facility.
