VTG is a large rail freight forwarder and rolling stock leasing company. The company is based in Germany with operations throughout Western, Central and Eastern Europe.

In 1998, VTG and Lehnkering AG merged their logistics activities to be known as VTG Lehnkering AG, however in 2004 the companies demerged and VTG Lehnkering AG was renamed VTG AG. Previously owned by Hapag Lloyd, the company was sold in 2005 to Compagnie Européenne de Wagons, which was established for the transaction by a US based investment firm, WL Ross & Co. LLC.

In 2007, VTG was floated on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. However Compagnie Européenne de Wagons retains a majority shareholding of 54.6%.

VTG AG revenues for 2010 were €629.40m.
