Brief Profile
Emirates Airline is based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and is owned by The Emirates Group. The Emirates Group consists of two key divisions - Emirates International Airline and Dnata.
Emirates Sky Cargo is a division of Emirates International Airline and provides air freight solutions. Dnata Cargo is the company's cargo division.
Emirates Airline operates services to the Middle East, Far East, Europe, Africa, Indian subcontinent, Asia-Pacific and North America. Its main base is Dubai International Airport. Emirates Airline is referred to as Emirates.
The airline was established in May 1985 by the Dubai government, who is also the sole owner of the company.
Initially, it flew to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Karachi. European destinations were added in 1987 and Far Eastern services in 1990. Emirates acquired a financial stake of 40% and management in 1998 for Air Lanka, known as Sri Lankan Airlines.
In 2008 the company had revenues of AED 46.26bn.
