General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam (GLS), is a pan-European company providing parcel and express services as well as value-added logistics solutions.
It is owned by the Royal Mail Group, the UK's postal operator. Royal Mail Group plc is a public limited company wholly owned by the UK government.
Royal Mail entered the European parcel sector in 1999 through the acquisition of German Parcel via its specially-created acquisition vehicle, General Logistics Systems (GLS). The full acquisition of German Parcel also gave it a 23% stake in General Parcel. This was followed with further acquisitions of General Parcel's businesses across Europe and the expansion of the network through additional acquisitions. General Parcel is now 80% owned by General Logistics Systems.
Revenue in 2010 was £1,485m.
