Brief Profile Expand

Parcelforce Worldwide is the package delivery arm of Royal Mail, the United Kingdom's government-owned postal service. Parcelforce provides domestic and international package shipments for British businesses.

Parcelforce offers an individual parcels service to customers at post offices, delivering anywhere in the country for a uniform tariff. However, its main business activity is to provide a collection and delivery service for larger customers on a contract basis for which it competes with a great many other businesses in the private sector. For reasons of efficiency, it subcontracts some of its services to Royal Mail.

The individual parcels service is an area where the Post Office is subject to a universal service obligation but - unlike Royal Mail - Parcelforce has no monopoly protection or special privileges (although it is exempt from Value Added Tax).

Parcelforce is headquartered at Milton Keynes and has changed from eight business units into 25 areas grouped into three territories:

  • Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland
  • West & Wales 
  • East
In 2009 the company had revenues of £399m.
