Brief Profile Expand

Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) was established in 1999 for the purpose of constructing and operating a new airport to be built in the city of Incheon.  Incheon is a metropolitan city and a major seaport on the west coast of South Korea, near Seoul.

Incheon International Airport (ICN) is the main hub for Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Cargo 360. Additionally, Tiger Airways is seeking to set up a hub in Seoul at Incheon International Airport. The airport replaced the international function of the old Gimpo Airport (formerly Kimpo International Airport). Gimpo Airport now serves only domestic destinations, except flights to Tokyo International Airport in Tokyo and Shanghai, China.

The Airport was opened on March 29, 2001, and has capacity to handle 170,000 flights, 30m passengers, and 2.7m tonnes of airfreight yearly.  IIAC, wholly owned by the Korean government, undertook an expansion programme to increase its capacity for international flights and cargo handling in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

It is now the largest airport in South Korea and one of the largest in Asia.  It was ranked in 2006 by the ACI as the world's fourth busiest airport for cargo.

IIAC reported sales exceeding KRW $792bn in FY2005.
