Shanghai Airport Group

Shanghai Airport Group (also known as the Shanghai Airport Authority) is a government body responsible for the operation of Shanghai's two main airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA).

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is situated in an urban area of Shanghai.  As the city grew, the airport's limited potential for expansion led to the decision to build a new facility.

PVG opened in 1999, replacing Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport as Shanghai's international airport.  The new airport took on all of the latter's international flights, including regional flights to Hong Kong and Macau.  International flights from SHA resumed in Autumn 2007 with the introduction of services to Tokyo's Hanenda Airport and Seoul's Incheon Airport.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is located in the eastern part of Pudong district of Shanghai, China. The airport is the main hub for China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines and a major International hub for Air China. United Parcel Service will open a hub at the airport in 2008, and DHL have announced their intention to do likewise.

In 2006 Pudong International handled 17.15 million passengers on international flights, and was rated the world's sixth-busiest air freight hub.  Profits for the group increased 9% to 1.5bn yuan ($195m).
