Canadian Pacific's corporate structure consists of a Canadian railway division (Canadian Pacific Railway Company), as well as rail assets in the U.S. operated by two wholly owned indirect subsidiaries, Soo Line Railroad Company and Delaware & Hudson Railway Company, Inc. CPR freight traffic is organised into three main categories: bulk, merchandise and intermodal:

• bulk commodities include farm and mine products such as grain, coal and potash
• the merchandise category is made up of processed and manufactured items such as paper and motor vehicles
• intermodal applies to anything that moves on the railway in a container or trailer

Canadian Pacific Railway is a transcontinental carrier operating in Canada and the United States. It is one of 7 North American Class 1 Freight Railways. Its 14,000-mile rail network serves the principal centres of Canada, from Montreal to Vancouver, and the US Northeast and Midwest regions, feeding directly from the east and west coasts. Alliances with other carriers extend CPR's market reach throughout the US and into Mexico.
