June - Posten and Post Danmark merged under a new name Posten Norden.
Post Denmark provides basic postal services to all customers - subject to an universal service obligation - which secures the whole population access to postal services on specified terms and conditions, throughout Denmark.
Post Denmark has an exclusive right to distribute domestic letters weighing less than 50 grams.
In 1995, the monopoly on the delivery of mail was broken, allowing more undertakings to distribute letters and parcels. Post Denmark generates more than half of its annual turnover of approximately DKK11bn (€1528.7m) in competition with other undertakings.
In 2002, Post Denmark became a public limited company fully owned by the Danish State. In 2005 CVC Capital Partners bought 22% of the shares and the employees bought 3% of the shares in Post Denmark. In October 2005 Post Denmark and CVC Capital Partners became a minority shareholder in the Belgian Post, De Post-LaPoste. They bought 50% minus one share in the company.
