April - following the approval of the responsible cartel authorities, DB Group purchased a majority stake of 55.1% in Transfesa. The purchase price was €135m. The Spanish railway, RENFE, and the French railway, SNCF, remained minority shareholders.

Transfesa has been included in the consolidated financial statements under the DB Schenker Rail business unit.

It is a transport and logistics service provider as well as an European intermodal operator. Its core activities are rail and up until its acquisition by DB was one of the private rail freight operators in Spain.

The Transfesa Group has subsidiaries and offices located in the main European countries as well as regional sites and offices in Spain and Portugal.  It has a large network of suppliers, consolidation and deconsolidation centres, warehouses as well as IT systems specially designed to monitor its operations 24 hours x 7 days per week, B2B and EDI. It has on line links with the major European railway administrations as well as its clients.
