Brief Profile
Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority manage, though a board of governors, one of the world's busiest cargo airport: Memphis International Airport. It also owns and operates two smaller reliever airports close to Memphis: General DeWitt Spain Airport and Charles W. Baker Airport.
Established in 1929, Memphis International Airport has been a major commercial airfreight facility since 1973 when FedEx Express (FedEx) built a sorting facility and an administration building on the airfield.
United Parcel Service also has a significant presence at the airport, operating one of its largest US sorting facilities out of the airport.
Memphis also boasts considerable passenger capacity. Northwest Airlines uses Memphis as its third largest hub. The Tennessee Air National Guard, TnANG, are also based at the facility.
Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, a public body, earned revenues in excess of $111.76m in 2010.
