2012

July - Celesio AG, a provider of logistics and services in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, announced that it planned to sell its Movianto Group. The company intended to sell Movianto, which specialised in third party logistics for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, to Owens & Minor, a leading US-based distributor of medical and surgical products and logistics provider.

Owens & Minor intended to acquire Movianto for a purchase price of €130m. The transaction was subject to the fulfilment of certain customary local legal provisions. Owens & Minor, which had a US-based third party logistics service, but no European operations, planned to integrate the two businesses, but planned to keep the Movianto teams and logistics centres located across Europe intact. Celesio and Owens & Minor also intended to explore mutually beneficial projects in distribution and logistics in the healthcare markets.

Celesio announced the sale of Movianto, which had been part of the Celesio Group since 2004, was in line with a strategic realignment. Celesio announced in October 2011 that it would focus on its core business with pharmaceutical wholesale and pharmacies, which accounted for more than 95% of the group business. As part of this development, the sale of the former division Manufacturer Solutions, which included Movianto, was approved.

Celesio CEO said "We are about to sell Movianto more swiftly than originally planned. We can combine this with the opportunity to pursue partnerships with Owens & Minor, a leading US company. We are implementing our new strategy with great consequence and step by step. The decision to sell is mainly driven by the buyer's reputation for quality and integrity, thus defending the best interest of the Movianto employees. With Owens & Minor, we have found a potential investor who will drive Movianto's successful development, offering new prospects. This is an all-round positive solution for all parties concerned."

The Movianto Group is European contract logistics service provider to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare industry. Offering outsourcing services such as warehousing, transportation, cold chain logistics as well as re-packaging and re-labelling.

It has a network of wholly owned subsidiaries across Western Europe, as well as Central and Eastern Europe.

Movianto is a subsidiary of Celesio AG, a healthcare distribution group.

In 2010, Celesio's revenues were €23.3bn. Movianto is included in Manufacturer Solutions Division, which in 2010, achieved revenue of €400m.
