The Port of Rotterdam is one of the largest ports in the world by cargo throughput and the largest in Europe. The Port of Rotterdam Authority (manager, operator and developer) claim that the port is the largest logistics and industrial hub in Europe.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority generates revenue from harbour dues and by letting out on long term leases port sites to businesses including storage firms, cargo terminals and players in the chemical, petrochemical and energy industries to name a few.

The European market is accessible from Rotterdam via five modalities: road, rail, inland shipping, coastal shipping and pipeline. Its location on the estuary of the rivers Rhine and Maas means transport by inland vessel is possible deep into Europe.

In 2011, the Port of Rotterdam Authority reported revenues of €588m.
