Saima was originally founded in 1816 by Innocente Mangili and in 1951 it changed its name to SocietÓ per Azioni Innocenti Mangili Adriatica - Spedizioni Internazionali, or "Saima". After a period of international expansion it merged with Avandero, a company that had for some time specialised in the textiles transport business. In 1999 the company was one of the first to be acquired by the ABX LOGISTICS Group, a division of the Belgian National Railways (SNCB/NMBS). The company occupied a central position in the Italian market for transport and logistics services with global reach provided by ABX Logistics Group.
