Wincanton Plc is a UK and Ireland-based supply chain solutions provider. The majority of its business concerns the provision of warehousing and transport solutions (contract logistics) in a range of sectors including construction, consumer goods, defence, energy, milk & bulk food, public sector and retail.
It also operates three separate specialist businesses: Pullman Fleet Services (commercial vehicle maintenance and repair), Wincanton Records Management and a container logistics business.
Wincanton finalised the complete disposal of its Mainland European operations in January 2012, leaving it active only in the UK and Ireland.
Inclusive of discontinued operations, Wincanton's revenues for 2011 were £1.75bn.
HistoryWincanton was formerly a subsidiary of Uniq (formerly Unigate Plc), a diversified UK food and dairy product manufacturer but was de-merged in May 2001, and floated on the London Stock Exchange. In December 2002, it acquired P&O Trans European, which supported a change in strategic direction towards becoming a leading European logistics provider, as well as expanding its geographic reach and range of services.
