Brief Profile
The Panama Canal, which first opened on August 15, 1914, connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The state owned Panama Canal Authority (ACP) is responsible for the operation, administration, management, preservation, maintenance, and modernisation of the Canal.
Since 2007, the Canal has been undergoing a major expansion which should double its capacity by 2014.
