System Plus

SystemPlus is a European road express system with defined transit times. Operations are run by local companies for the majority of the System Plus network.

History

System Plus emerged from the express delivery service System-Gut which was established in 1986 by 11 medium-size forwarding businesses to organise a national express delivery service within the general cargo market. In 1991, the system began to expand internationally: Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland were the first countries to be integrated into the area-wide system; other countries soon followed.

As part of a stronger international focus, the name was changed to System Plus in 1998, to create an international alliance of fifteen European partners to exploit the opportunities of growing cross border trade. System Plus Logistik Service GmbH & Co. KG became the international headquarters of its corporate partners. A new service was introduced for the exchange of bill of lading data between shipper and receiver.

In 1999 in order to improve service, the cooperative introduced centralised software for Europe-wide online assessment of shipments. The year 2000 brought the area-wide introduction of '2 of 5 interleaved', as well as EAN 128 NVE as additional barcode.
