Brief Profile
The Port of Hamburg is located in Germany, on the river Elbe, 110 km from its mouth. It is the largest port in Germany.
The harbour covers an area of 73.99 sq km, of which 43.31 sq km are land areas with warehousing and transshipment facilities. It is also free port, which enables toll-free shipping.
Hamburg cooperates closely with the other ports on the Elbe River, Cuxhaven, Brunsbüttel and Glückstadt, as well as with the Baltic Sea ports Lübeck and Kiel. The ports act together as a Northern European metropolitan area in competing on the international market.
In 2008, the container throughput figure was 9.7m TEU, 1.5% lower in comparison to 2007.
